Rylee and her "Sissy"

Trying to get a cute pic and Rylee just wants
that bow out of her hair!

Rylee is connected at Brittany's hips,
knees, hands, pants just whatever she
can get ahold of - the whole weekend
that "Sissy" is here.

A Backus Speller

Her daddy says it's an oximoran......I say it's her momma's genes! LOL Brittany was in the Spelling Bee Friday at Nashville. She spelled MEGALOPOLIS correct and misspelled OREGANO! Poor child.....year before last she misspelled hedonism and neither she nor her mom can remember what last year's misspelled word was, but this year is oregano. Something tells me that she'll be able to spell hedonism and oregano for the rest of her life!
At any rate....her mom, dad, stepmom and stepdad and all the entities associated with that complicted web are extremely proud of her and her accomplishments. She beat quite a few 7th graders, we are told! Sounds like maybe a Backus speller afterall!

Me and My Pals

Roy gave me this teddy bear for Christmas years ago and now Rylee has taken it as her buddy. She wanted her and the bear covered up the other night!

Malley - our chocolate lab - came in to play one night. Rylee Grace just squeels when Malley gets to come in for a while.

Congratulations to the Jackson's!

Larry and Kristi (Turley) Jackson are having a baby! I'm so excited for you, Kristi! You deserve all the best! Can't wait to meet the little toot!

He said......He said......

So.....you just never know what is going to come out of a child's mouth! Today, as I was teaching, one of my little boys asks...."Mrs. Backus, did they have games when you were a kid"? I say, "Well, sure I did"! He says......"Well, Mrs. Williams said she didn't have games when she was a kid". I said - "well, I did". As I walk away, I hear another little boy ask the first little boy "Why do you think that just because Mrs. Williams didn't have games that Mrs. Backus wouldn't have games"? He says - "I don't know - I guess because they were kids at the same time"? The other little boy says - "eeewwwww - you're calling Mrs. Backus OLD"! (All of this is a whisper, mind you. Now - you just have to know Mrs. Williams to understand what a hoot this is. And - of course - I had to just keep walking straight out of the room so as not to bust out laughing at this conversation between two very bright, precious kids! And of course, I walked straight to Mrs. Williams room to share this story. She and I both had a much needed laugh! Moments like these are the very reason I get up at 5:30 every morning, wake my child up at 6:30 and drive her to Nashville at 6:45 so I can leave Mineral Springs at 7:00 to be in Ashdown by 7:30. Nothin' like it!
